Can you convert to gypsy
Travellers and gypsies who set up home in any of the above contexts cannot be immediately moved on. Local councils must first demonstrate that they are on the land without consent. Then enquiries must be made into the general welfare and health of the party. After that has been established, there are notices that have to be served and due process to be followed, including approaching the courts in order to get the relevant authority to order the gypsies and travellers to move on from the site.
An order to move them on can be refused if it seems that the first two steps have not been properly taken. Short of taking the rather drastic step of marrying into a Romani family, what can you do to make this happen? A good first step would be to qualify to teach English as a foreign language. A level 3 TEFL qualification is sufficient to unlock a world of opportunities to teach, travel and earn a salary in every single non-Anglophone country in the world.
Even better, there are no entry requirements. You do not have to have studied languages at school or university. All you need is to be fluent in English. Seven hundred caravans are parked around a blue and white big top, in the middle of an agricultural showground in the Welsh county of Carmarthenshire. One of those caravans belongs to Diane Stephenson, a tall, blonde, motherly woman in her late 50s.
Her immaculate caravan is proudly decorated with displays of fine china and beautiful cut-glass vases. It's pitched right next to the giant tent, where that night's gospel service will be held. She explains how a mission of French Gypsies visited the north-east of England in the early s.
It took 10 years, though, for her to be persuaded and join Light and Life. Light and Life, though, regards fortune-telling as sinful. The rain, which has been pouring down, lets up and Diane shows off the site. The whirr of the generators provides a background to the chatter and the shrieks of the children running through the puddles near the sweet stall. Meanwhile, men are congregating in groups, talking earnestly.
Among them is Peter, a good-looking, enthusiastic and smartly dressed man in his 40s. He's in a wheelchair after losing the use of his legs in a work accident. We've gone from being professional liars - and I was one of them," he says bluntly. That's what happens when you're born again," he adds. This means any caravans or mobile homes should not be visible from any direction — either from the road, other houses, roads or locations that might overlook the site from a nearby hill, etc..
The site should be close to local amenities. This means reasonably close usually within 3 to 5 miles to shops, public transport, schools, etc. It is very important that the site has a safe entrance and exit.
The land should be in an area where you have a local connection. For example, you have lived there for a long time, you have close family there, your children attend the local school or you are registered with local doctors. The site should either already have services provided to it or be able to have them installed. This means mainly water and sewage. You need to check if the site is in an area that has a history of flooding. Noise can also be something to consider. For example, if it is located near an airport or motorway.
Do you carry out any business that is likely to increase the amount of traffic on an off the site beyond what a family would create and will any work create noise or nuisance?
