Still, Cross's portrayal was a pleasure to watch. Though many of the characters are played differently in this revival,not as campy in some roles, thank God, I still liked John Karlen's "Willie Lumas" character better than the updated version , fans of the old Shadows series will not be disappointed, except that unlike the original, it ends much too soon.

Jonathan Frid is great and Angelique, and of course Quentin. I love Quentin and none of the characters except for Ben Cross are quite as good.

But Ben Cross seems more violent while the original Barnabus seemed to have a kinder side and a family bond. The newer series was a gift but I prefer the older one hands down, even if the set and dialogue is below average.

There's just something about it that i've loved since a child. However, the newer version is interesting and everything is more modern so I would suggest to anyone to watch it. The Dark Sahdows with Ben Cross is worth watching but can't h old a candle to the original. When I was younger I saw this series religously and I missed the very last episode because of certain circumstances that were my parents fault. I have always complained that I didn't see this last episode and now I had the opportunity and I have been quite pleased with the series and the way it is packaged.

The first couple of episodes were weird, the faces of the actors were cut off and you couldn't see them but soon after everything was fine. I remember now how much I loved this revival series.
